Position sizing: how much should you risk on one signal?

The most important question for anyone using signals, and the least asked. How much of your account do you put at risk per trade?

A common starting point is risking 0.5 to 1% of the account per trade. Risk means the loss if the stop is hit, not the position size. Example: a $1,000 account risking 1% = $10. If the stop is 5% below entry, the position is $10 / 0.05 = $200. That way a losing streak (and every strategy has them) does not wipe you out. Never risk money you cannot afford to lose. How do you size your trades?
